What Rasoolullah Would Eat with Bread
Ash-Shama'il Al-Muhammadiyah 151
An-Nu'man ibn Bashir said:
“Do you not have what you want in the way of food and drink? I have seen your Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), and the poor-quality dates [daqal] that he finds are what fills his stomach."
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الأَحْوَصِ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ بْنَ بَشِيرٍ، يَقُولُ: أَلَسْتُمْ فِي طَعَامٍ وَشَرَابٍ مَا شِئِتُمْ؟ لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ نَبِيَّكُمْ صلى الله عليه وسلم، وَمَا يَجِدُ مِنَ الدَّقَلِ مَا يَمْلأُ بَطْنَهُ.

comments
The Sahaabi's intention is to persuade one to follow the simple life of Sayyidina Rasulullah Sallallahu 'Alayhi Wasallam and that one lives in this world for only a short period. When in the hadith it is denied that Sayyidina Rasulullah Sallallahu 'Alayhi Wasallam did not have ordinary dates to fill his stomach then what about bread and curry?
