Mishkat al-Masabih 5710

Abu Huraira reported God's messenger as saying, "It is not fitting for a man to say I am better than Jonah son of Matta." (Bukhari and Muslim.) In a version by Bukhari he said, "Whoever says I am better than Jonah son of Matta has lied." Bukhari

وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " مَا يَنْبَغِي لِعَبْدٍ أَنْ يَقُولَ: إِنِّي خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى ". مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ وَفِي رِوَايَةِ البُخَارِيّ قَالَ: " من قَالَ: أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِنْ يُونُسَ بْنِ مَتَّى فقد كذب "
