Bulugh al-Maram 789
Narrated Abu Zubair (RA):
I asked Jabir (RA) about the payment for cats and dogs and he replied, "The Prophet (ﷺ) warned sternly against that."
[Reported by Muslim].
وَعَنْ أَبِي اَلزُّبَيْرِ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ جَابِرًا عَنْ ثَمَنِ اَلسِّنَّوْرِ وَالْكَلْبِ? فَقَالَ: { زَجَرَ اَلنَّبِيُّ - صلى الله عليه وسلم -عَنْ ذَلِكَ } رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ 1 .

"except a hunting dog."
